Not every product tagged as “Genuine Leather Product” is made of leather! It is up to our examination skills to find out, filter and bring home the genuine leather product. Here are some simple ways to identify genuine leather products.
Today many fashionable products are made of leather and shoes are the primary ones. Many have got the craze to use products made of genuine leather. People also spend colossal amount of money in buying them. But are you sure the shoe, wallet, belt, bag or any accessory you are going to purchase is made of genuine leather?
When you are busy shopping you may not prioritize examining the product in depth if you like the pattern, color and other features of it. But to ensure that you are spending right, you must find out whether the leather is genuine or it is a faux leather product.
Simple Ways to Identify Genuine Leather
•    Basic Logic – this might sound silly but it is the top-most tip. Simply check for the label. Yes, the label that indicates that the product is made of genuine leather. If the label indicates ‘leather and man-made products’ then simply ignore the product.
•    The Fabric Finish, Pattern and Pores – The finishes won’t be very even in a leather product. In a faux leather material which is man-made the pattern visible on the surface will be even and also sometimes the same pattern will repeat often. In natural leather the pattern and pores on the surface will be so different and it will not repeat.
•    Bend it – While examining, bend the leather product. If it is real leather it will get back to its original shape otherwise it’ll develop few folded impressions.
•    Compare – If you are already having a leather shoe with you, better take it while shopping new leather shoes. Compare both the shoes and then try to spot the differences in material.
•    Scent – Sniffing (though it is not liked by all!) can also help you find out real leather. The genuine leather product, however processed it is will have unique smell.
•    Edging and Cut – Faux leather products will have even edges and the cuts will be very smooth and in perfect shape. Whereas if it is genuine leather then it’ll have a cut that is uneven with rough edges at least in one place.
•    Burning – When you burn real leather product, it will create some pungent smell. If its faux leather then it will appear like foam or lather when burnt. (Try burning a small left-over piece of the product ‘If Possible’)
By following the above guidelines make out the difference between faux leather and genuine one with ease. Make sensible expenditure while buying genuine leather products!
