Shoe Soles

Rubber is a common sole material for canvas sneakers and high-tops.
While buying shoes, soles play a major role in our buying decision making. If you look closely, there is plethora of shoe sole materials in the industry and usually the chosen materials for the shoes are carefully calculate by the manufacturers.  1.    Rubber Soles
 For traditional Canvas sneakers and High tops usually sport rubber soles. Rubber soles are either molded from rubber or mixed with other materials to make it more durable & Flexible. Synthetic compounds simulate the flexibility and protection of the rubber. And they are used alone or with other materials to compose the soles and bodies of footwear designed for use at beaches.

Waterproof shoes and boots could be made of entirely with rubber or may be product of missed of rubber and Polyvinyl chloride in their design. Thin rubber soles common sole material for toddlers as it provides protection and better grip while they run, jump and play.

2.    Leather Soles

Leather soles are actually made up of high quality cowhide and is best to provide support and grip on hardwood tile and similar surfaces. Double layer flexible leather soles also offer the similar slippage resistance and provide thicker sole for better feet protection.

Suede leather which is soft textured, allows better flexibility and sensory input to the feet.  Because of its delicate nature, suede leather is often better to be worn indoor, as slippers or moccasins. It could not provide protection from weather or debris. Suede can also be doubled up to provide additional warmth and Protection.

3.    Synthetic Materials

  • Synthetic materials are most often used in Shoe sole designing & Construction. Usually polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane and neoprene and occasionally used to provide flexibility to the sole. Neoprene is used not only for human shoes, but also in booties for search-and-rescue dogs, which utilize the material's flexibility while they climb or run while relying on its toughness to protect them from hazards.

Recycled Materials

  • Recently people have become more environmentally conscious and trends suggest that recycled material is finding some prominence In the Soles materials. There are few major companies who specifically state using recycled materials. The proportion could vary from manufacture to manufacture ranging from 47% to 70% of reused materials.
