Although some manufacturers are following the guidelines laid out by government authorities and they themselves are aware and want to avoid any such things. But perhaps will also need to understand that even though everything is ok, but your supervision is always needed.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) closely monitors and regulates toys. Any toys made in — or imported into — the United States after 1995 must comply with CPSC standards.
Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind when toy-shopping:
  • Toys made of fabric should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant.
  • Stuffed toys should be washable.
  • Painted toys should be covered with lead-free paint.
  • Art materials should say nontoxic.
  • Crayons and paints should say ASTM D-4236 on the package, which means that they’ve been evaluated by the American Society for Testing and Materials.

Steer clear of the older toys, old one if have some emotional or sentimental values attached to it, put them inside glass jar or mount them on the wall, they don’t meet the current safety standards.

Some of us just love the loud sound making toys, but this might be something you like , but they aren’t meant for the kids at all. I have personally seen some rattles, squeak toys and musical toys making as loud as car alarms. If a child holds it directly into the ears- it can contribute to the hearing damage.

THE RIGHT TOYS AT THE RIGHT AGES

Remember to read the toy labels as per the guidelines and age appropriation. Refer to the guidelines published by CPSC or Health authority in your country, referring to them would help you making the right buying decision. Still all being said, you are own best judge, considering your Childs temperament, habits, behaviors whenever you think buying a toy
You may think that a child who’s advanced in comparison to peers can handle toys meant for older kids. But the age levels for toys are determined by safety factors, not intelligence or maturity.
