Use of Triphala Powder for Hair Care



Triphala in hindi Stands for “Three fruits”is popular herbal prepration know to Indian subcontinent for centuries. Ayurveda recognizes triphala as digestive, Controls high blood pressure, headechus and improves skin tone and contion. Though there are certain evidence that it could help in conditioning and repairing the damaged hair and to some extent helps in new hair growth.

The Three Fruits
Amlaki (amla or Indian gooseberry), haritaki (chebulic myrobalan), and bibhitaki (belleric myrobalan) are the three plant compounds that go into the triphala mixture. As usual three different compentents of the mixture are supposed to play a different kind of role, for example bibhitaki is said to promote good health of skin and hair. Ayurveda considers triphala as longevity booster by helping the digestive system. Though there isn’t any clinical data available for hair growth, hower there is study at University of Pittsburgh cancer institute found that This preparation inhibits cancer cell growth in lab mice.
Recommended Doses

There are few options available for those who are willing to try triphala, either you can go for tablet or powdered form.  Traditional form is cut, grind hurb to powder, mixed with warm water and you can intake it as tea. Three doeses o one gram is good enough, you can take them between meals or one 3 Gram dosage in the evening.

Triphala for hair growth
To promote new hair growth using thriphala, consume the mix orally, either by popping a tablet or mixing dried extract with warm water.  Powdered form is considered more effective and works faster. You can also apply it one hair in paste form.  Make thick paste of triphala in warm water and apply it directly on the scalp for several minutes before washing it off. Same treatment could be carried out on the skin

Hair Cleanser
Triphala is very good for cleaning oily hair and scalp, kind of scalp or hair that requires frequent shampooing. Triphala is preferred over the counter commercial shampoos, some of them have very harsh detergents that damage hair.

Cautions
Triphala can be taken with sweets or honey to balance the strong acidic taste.
Normal digestion can interfere with its beneficial effects, so users avoid taking triphala before meals. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not reviewed triphala for its safety or efficacy
However, it is advised against pregnant or nursing women, and anyone suffering from chronic diarrhea or other serious intestinal illnesses, not to use it.
One of the richest vitamin C sources is in Indian gooseberry – amalaki or amla. It contains 10 times more ascorbic acid as compared to an orange. Amalaki or Indian gooseberry is one of the ingredients in Triphala churna.
